Why, then, were all the conversations I had with the cord blood banking companies so unsettling? Whenever I compared the prices of each bank and looked into the features they offered, those nagging doubts would butt against my logical thinking. Initially, I thought I was having issues with the cost, much like buyer's remorse. But I hadn't bought anything.   

What was really bothering me? I had enough money to afford to bank my daughter's blood, and had spent more money on crazier things, or so I thought. Nonetheless, I knew something about the cost was bothering me. On the surface, it seemed like the smart thing to do. But after mulling my decision over for a couple of weeks, I had an epiphany. Why would I pay money to bank something that already belongs to my child? That broke the "question dam" wide open. Wouldn't my child get all of that precious blood anyway since it's in her umbilical cord? If my child doesn't get that blood, why not? Why is it taken from her at birth? If the blood is so valuable that people will pay to store it, then isn't it invaluable to her when she's first born? Shouldn't she receive it immediately rather than saving it for later?
